Worum geht es? In „Zum Gemeinwohl“ werden Joseph Beuys, Papst Franziskus und der mexikanische Befreiungstheologe José Porfirio Miranda miteinander ins Gespräch kommen. Sie werden sich zu den Themen Ökologie, Gemeinwohl und Kommunismus der Bibel unterhalten. Zwischen diesen Themenblöcken werden meditative Gebetstexte von Dorothee Sölle vorgetragen.

Ökologie: Beuys war einer der Gründer der Grünen, der Papst hat die Enzyklika Laudato si‘ publiziert. Gemeinwohl: Alle drei Autoren sind fundamentale Kritiker eines ausbeuterischen Finanzkapitalismus. Kommunismus der Bibel: Miranda hat ein Buch dieses Titels geschrieben, das Ernesto Cardenal als seine wesentliche Inspirationsquelle bezeichnet. Dorothee Sölle hat zu allen drei Themen geschrieben und gehandelt. Beuys schließlich ist es, der für alle drei Themenkomplexe die wichtige, die bestimmende Rolle der Kunst herausarbeitet. Mit seinem künstlerischen Engagement für die direkte Demokratie, mit seiner Theorie und Praxis der Sozialen Skulptur und mit seiner Bildungsmission zu einem Rollenideal „Jeder ist ein Künstler“ weist er der Kunst eine zentrale Rolle bei der Gestaltung des politischen, ja des sozialen Feldes zu. Er verlangt Gestaltung von der Kunst und ist entschieden dagegen, dass sich Kunst dazu hergibt, nur die Räume der Herrschenden zu dekorieren.
